Luxor Insider

I've been following Luxor LV's updates on twitter for a while now. Luxor Insider is a blog written by the girl that handles the interactive marketing for Luxor. You gotta hand it to the big corporate structure at MGM to allow something like this to happen and not try to over regulate the press coming out of the joint. In fact it surprises me that more large corporations or businesses don't embrace blogging, twitter and other means of communication to get thier message out. It's pretty much cheap advertising and much more timely and personal. There's so much to like about social networking as a networking tool, thank goodness the corporate bigwigs don't get in the way and let it fly. Especially in this case where you feel like you get that on the ground feeling of what is really going on behind the scenes as it is happening and not just some glossy web marketing campaign which would be much more impersonal.

Just recently there are a ton of pictures of the pyramid covered in snow. I'm digging it!

Encore Opening is a website that continually refreshes with a gazillion photos and planned coverage of the sister property to Steve Wynn's signature Wynn Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

There is a countdown timer and tons and tons of current pictures with more to come.

Las Vegas Advisor provides a list of free WiFi spots around Vegas.

At first glance Vegas Made Easy looks like your typical Vegas site that is trying to get you to click on links that will earn the site referral dollars, but once you click on a few of the links to check out what's really going on here you will find out that this is no re-hashed standard Vegas 5 year old info site.

It is current and has real world informed information from people that seem to really knwo what they are talking about. For example- When you click on the Nightlife page it brings yyou to a host of strip club information, and not just the prices to get in and location. They have shit broken down into categories and they have charts. I was literally expecting to see a pie chart with average boob sizes. They get into detail, and in every category. A lot of work went into this site and that's what I like about it. They didn't take the lazy route and just regurgitate the same info that any Vegas fan knows already. They Dig Deeper.

The Las Vegas Sun has a multimedia page utilizing some of the coolest technology I've seen on ANY website.

There is an interactive casino history map in which you click through the different decades and see the new buildings come and go. It's rockin technology. It also has hi-def videos of the history of Las Vegas broken down into decades from the 1900s on. Then there are the implosion videos. There's The Neon Boneyard, and also The Elvis Impersonators. In short its the best collection of Vegas Mutimedia put together on one web page that I've ever seen.

Vegas Tripping Shown on CNBC

What's pretty cool about the popularity of Vegas is that you have these mom and pop website operators doing things better than big advertisers. The Strip Podcast, FiveHundyByMidnight, RateVegas, VegasTodayandTomorrow and VegasTripping all offer far greater content than any of the big boy hotel/casino operators provide the Vegas consumer or aficionado.

Here is a CNBC report in which VegasTripping is shown at about one minute 40 seconds in. There are times when I wonder if the big operators understand how much these comparatively small budget websites affect their bottom lines. There are plenty of other message board and Vegas communities that also contribute to the way the casual consumer decides how they are going to spend their vacation money in Vegas- VegasRex, LasVegasAdvisor, VegasMessageboard, This Ain'tIowa and many others.

My little Links Blog got a much appreciated plug on the first and one of the finest Vegas websites that I visit on a daily basis. The Five Hundy By Midnight Podcast Blog is where fans of the show leave comments discussing the latest Vegas podcast and to share their Vegas experiences and knowledge. It's almost like a forum but not quite.

Anyway the plug was very much appreciated as I'm sure Five Hundy's audience is far broader than mine. My blog started out as a project for what I thought I would like to have a handy reference for the insane amount of time I spend dreaming about and researching my next Vegas trip (which is a year round pastime).

It's morphed into something I'm pretty proud of but honestly it's all just a labor of love.
